On every working day the fully loaded private vans arrive at CSIRC at 9 am sharp. Children are collected from their homes in the morning and they are occupied in the Centre for various interventions till 4 pm. The fully content and happy students are dropped back home by the private van in the evening. All these children have various types of disabilities like Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation (MR), Down’s Syndrome, Visual Impairment, Speech and Hearing Impairments and other Developmental Disorders.
Special Education Classroom
Children with Cerebral Palsy and Mental Retardation in the age group of 5-13 are given special education according to their performance level that includes Academics, Social, Pre-Vocational and Self-Help Skills including Play and other Activities of Daily Living.
Integrated Education
Is an inclusive education program specially designed by the Government of India for differently-abled children, Called Sarva Siksha Abhyan (SSA), this primary education program focuses on the Differently-abled being integrated with “mainstream” students so they all together learn in a regular school classroom under a standard curriculum. CSIRC students go to CSI Town Middle School located next to the Centre as part of this program. This has also shown to increase empathy and raise awareness in the mainstream students concerning human values at-large. After completing studies till 8th Grade in this school, they move on to other schools in Kodaikanal, Madurai and Chennai for their Higher Secondary education. The students then decide on where they want to study college and we help in facilitating their higher education of Graduation and Post Graduation studies.
Speech and Hearing Section
All the Hearing Impaired children attend regular schooling the CSI Town Middle School, where quality education is imparted to them under the Sarva Sikshya Abhyan (SSA) program. Reinforcing sessions in Language Skills are separately attended to in the Centre Speech & Hearing Unit. Wherever Remedial Sessions are seen to be required the Special Educators in this unit attend to that also. The students receive Speech and Auditory Training, Speech Stimulation, Lip Reading, Sign Language Interpretation and extra-curricular activities here. All the students undergo Audiogram Testing and receive Hearing Aids according to the assessment results.

Vision Section
All Visually Impaired children attend regular schooling at the CSI Town Middle School under the Sarva Sikshya Abhyan (SSA) program and receive special inputs in this section by adapting the following methods by the Special Educator. • Braille Method for Reading & Writing • Nemeth code in Braille, Abacus, Taylor frame, using Braille geometry kits and oral teaching for mathematics. • Kinesthetic sense. • Orientation & Mobility. • Activities of Daily living • Audio equipments for auditory learning
Vision Section
Home-Based Rehabilitation
The main aim of our Home-based Rehabilitation Program is to offer training and awareness to the parents, siblings and other family members on how to better help their Special Needs child. Our Special educator and therapist together provide the program for the child and the caregiver is trained to implement the program. The child’s home is visited regularly to monitor the progress made by the child and to provide the next level program. In case of problems faced by the parents in training, this is looked into by the Staff and required corrections suggested. The parents are also encouraged to visit the Center whenever needed. Local resources available in their villages are used as materials for training. Regular follow-ups are done periodically.
Speech Therapy
Some students come to Speech Therapy. Giving equal importance to communications, this unit provides Speech Therapy for better speaking skills. To express themselves in a better way regular vocal exercises are imparted to the students.

Acquiring better language skills a student improves in other cognitive and social areas considerably.
Physical Therapy
Kinetic Therapy is offered in order to strengthen innate muscle power, improve mobility and to reduce pain and correct deformities. All the children who need therapy come to this unit in turns from their respective classes for individual sessions.

Computer Training
All children in the centre are exposed to computers in this unit which is handled by one of our alumni who after her Computer training decided to train the children in the centre by becoming one of our staffs.
Recreation & Leisure
Students are taken out to Parks in Kodaikanal, and enjoy cultural programs to more freely develop Social and Interpersonal skills. They take the opportunity to learn about plants, animals and the environment through various learning media.
Extra Curricular Activities
The children at CSIRC are exposed to Arts and Crafts, Sports, Games and Music to bring out and develop hidden talents.

Clubs
One highlighted afternoon in every week, the children in the Centre are grouped into Five clubs—(1) Nature, (2) Arts & Crafts, (3) Science, (4) Sports and (5) Music. Various activities connected with each Club are conducted and in an opportunity for children from different parts of the Centre to come together, and interact in an Integrated Workshop atmosphere.

Value Education
One afternoon is also highlighted every week for children to attend Value Education where inputs on Healthy Habits, Tidiness, Health & Hygiene, Discipline in Life, and Environment are given to empower them in the greater society.
Referrals
CSIRC has provided for outpatient services by conducting assessment and giving individual rehabilitation programs. Outpatients are referred to specialized services and inputs whenever needed.
Counseling
Parental counseling and home visits by Centre Staff are a part of this exercise. Parents, siblings and other family members are counseled on awareness and acceptance even pride in a Special Needs child. Parents meeting and get-togethers are often conducted on various child related and social issues.
